Drug Awareness Community Event
On Wednesday, April 8th, the Cameron School District hosted a community awareness presentation on illegal drug use, offered additional information about wastewater drug testing, and heard from Sgt. Shane Hux with the Missouri Highway Patrol and Nathan Jones, EMT-Paramedic with the Cameron Ambulance District, to learn how to identify drug use in the home and community as well as how to handle an overdose.
The district's presentation provided to stakeholders as well as an informative alert on Nitazene are shared here:

Also, below are the district's responses to questions posed following the presentation:
Could there be a student assembly or event where they are taught about Narcan and how to administer? Yes, we are currently seeking a presenter to provide information to middle school and high school students.
What is the end goal of being aware of the different kinds of drugs that are coming through our school district? The district's plan is to provide education to our students, families, and community so all are aware of the dangers of illegal drug use, know the resources that are available to help families who are dealing with addiction, and to be educated on how to handle an overdose when and if one is encountered. Our end goal is to save lives.
Is there a plan to test the other buildings' waste systems or is the only concern with the middle and high school? We do not have a plan to test the other buildings at this time.
Do we have Narcan on hand in the schools, accessible to staff? Yes, Narcan is available in all five buildings (PV, CIS, CVMS, CHS, and CO) and is stored in the nurses' offices as well as carried by both Cameron Schools Police Officers. Our school supply is ample, as is the supply of Cameron PD and the Cameron Ambulance District, and can handle all levels of emergency overdose treatment.
Thank you for your continued support of our efforts.
